It is not just a case of measuring the necessary distance between the wall and the line from which the dart will need to be thrown. There needs to be enough room behind this line for the player to feel comfortable in their stance when throwing the dart. It is useful if there is room for other people to pass behind someone standing on the line, but if you don't have anywhere big enough to allow for this, you may want to go ahead anyway.

Contrary to popular opinion darts is not a sport for the lazy. Despite the reputation of darts players in the past being idle and unfit, darts does put a strain on the body and need a certain degree of fitness. Certainly, you will need a strong, developed throwing arm to play for any length of time. It is important to realize that you will need to practice in order to develop the ability to keep playing for long periods of time, but that you will need to rest your arm at the right time to avoid possible injury.

Dart boards come in many different types and price ranges, and are made of different materials. It is best to avoid the absolute cheapest dart boards, as they are not made of bristle. Dart boards which are not made of bristle do tend to wear out more easily and more often, so if you are going to be playing a lot of darts it is a false economy anyway. The dart will not stick into the surface as well, and areas of the board can easily become damaged from excess wear. Other than the consideration of the material used in the manufacture of the dart board, there is no real reason to choose anything more expensive than the basic model.

Often, the more expensive dart board sets are dearer because of the wood used in the surround, which is purely for cosmetic purposes, or because the set is themed in some way. Organizations such as the NFL, which make a lot of money from selling endorsed goods, have dartboards amongst their items for sale. You can get a dartboard with the logo of any NFL team on the case, and obviously these boards come at a premium price. It is really up to you how much you want to spend on a dartboard.

 Electronic darts is becoming ever more popular, and in many parts of the world it has achieved a popularity which was never known by the more traditional bristle board version of the game. There are many contributory factors to this, the main one being the safety aspect, and the way that parents are far happier letting their children play with soft tip darts. The electronic machine itself also makes the game less laborious for those who lack arithmetic skills, as it will calculate the scores for you.

The traditional version of darts is played on a bristle board, with either steel or tungsten darts. These boards are of a high quality and can last for years, especially if they are rotated so that a different segment of the board is used for the number twenty. However, there is still more wear and tear than with an electronic board. The biggest issue is with the darts themselves, which obviously need to be very sharp and very pointed to stick in the board. This makes them a security risk in many cases, and certainly one many parents are not prepared to take.

There is another good reason why many people did not want a traditional dartboard in their home, even though it can provide hours of enjoyment for a very small price. Unless you are an accomplished player, it is certain that some of your darts will go astray, and miss the board by a considerable margin. When this happens, there is a risk of damage to plaster, and also to the decoration of the room. You really need to build a hard wood surround, and this is not cheap. It also does not stop the holes in the hard wood itself becoming unsightly.

Electronic dartboards eliminate many of these problems. Although they are not as cheap as a traditional bristle board, they are well within the budget of the average man, and the need to build elaborate fixtures around the board is eliminated. The dartboard can become a source of pleasure for the whole family, and young players can start at an earlier age than would otherwise be possible. The skills which are used in electronic darts are identical to those of the traditional game, so a young player can progress more quickly by starting with an electronic dartboard.

The only significant difference in the electronic game is the equipment, and the soft tip darts which are used will go into the board in a different way. This can lead to some adjustment problems between the two games, as players can unconsciously try to throw harder when they have a soft tip dart in their hands. This is nothing which cannot be overcome with practice, and there are many players who are perfectly comfortable playing either style of darts. Electronic dartboards, and the games played on them, are becoming ever more common, and the prize money is increasing. There is, therefore, a very good reason for traditional players to become comfortable with electronic darts.
